North Carolina's Roy Cooper is the latest state attorney general to launch an investigation into servicers' affidavit-review processes. The consumer-protection division of Cooper's office is examining 14 companies to determine whether the lenders routinely signed off on large numbers of affidavits in North Carolina foreclosures without proper review.

Cooper is also calling on the lenders to suspend foreclosures in the state until they can show that their affidavit procedures have been reviewed and are in compliance with the law.

The lenders contacted by Cooper's office are Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Citi Mortgage, SunTrust Mortgage, PHH Mortgage, OneWest Bank, PNC Mortgage, Aurora Bank, US Bank Home Mortgage, HSBC, MetLife Home Loans, BB&T Mortgage and American Home Mortgage Servicing.
