Freddie Mac Reports 6.6% Drop In October Portfolio

Freddie Mac's total mortgage portfolio decreased at an annualized rate of 6.6% in October, according to data released by the government-sponsored enterprise.

Within the Freddie Mac portfolio, single-family refinance-loan purchase and guarantee volume was $33.1 billion in October, reflecting 83% of total mortgage purchases and issuances. Freddie Mac's loan modifications totaled 15,144 in October 2010 and 146,833 for the 10 months ending Oct. 31.

The aggregate unpaid principal balance of Freddie Mac's mortgage-related investments portfolio decreased by approximately $7.4 billion. Its single-family serious-delinquency rate increased to 3.82% in October, and its multifamily delinquency rate increased to 0.44% in the same month.
