Iowa AG Fights To Keep Mortgage Help Hotline Afloat | in News > Mortgage Servicing |  |
Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has implored the state's legislature to allocate funding to keep the Iowa Mortgage Help (IMH) Hotline afloat. The hotline, which Miller says has helped thousands in the state, will be closed as early as June if funds cannot be secured to keep it operating.
Miller has asked the legislature to authorize the Iowa Finance Authority to use existing money already in its housing trust fund to provide a short-term lifeline for the hotline.
"This simple measure has been in the hopper all session, but it needs to be approved before lawmakers go home,” Miller said in a media statement. He is also asking Gov. Chet Culver and the legislature to search for additional resources to fund what he calls a “crucial, tested, successful program.”
The federal grant that supplies most of the funding for IMH has been cut by 58%, according to Miller.
