Canada's federal government and the provincial government of British Columbia have announced a C$5 million investment in a newly funded Aboriginal Housing Initiative that will help create affordable housing for the indigenous population of British Columbia.

Through the Canada-British Columbia Agreement for Investment in Affordable Housing 2011–2014, this initiative will create affordable rental housing projects with a focus on indigenous residents within the province. The Aboriginal Housing Management Association has also partnered with the province to assist in the evaluation process and oversee the management and operations of the housing projects.

"The government of Canada is dedicated to helping those in need access housing solutions in British Columbia," says James Moore, minister of Canadian heritage and official languages and minister responsible for British Columbia. "This new initiative will provide more than just safe and affordable places to live - it will be the key to a better life for aboriginal people."
